seconds ago.  Imagine the difference in the U.S. economy if we spent far less on the military. Stop the military financing, and you slow the business of war.

Most people do not realize how many veterans have died of the "Gulf War Syndrome."

The answer 10,324 Deployed Gulf War Vets have died. Most Americans do not know that our USA troops will be exposed to Plutonium laced Depleted Uranium, and to Chemical and Biological weapons that are used by our own military, with highly toxic effects on our own troops. Here are some basic facts that you can share with friends by referring them to Some Depleted Uranium Statistics at www.PeaceAware.com

INTERESTING ITEMS ABOUT OUR ADMINISTRATION'S VIEW OF ITS MILITARY

Bush's 'sacrifice' can't be matched

As we head for war with Iraq, Americans should reflect and be grateful for combat sacrifices made by our veterans, such as Sen. Daniel Inouye (lost an arm), Sen. John McCain (lost six years of his life in a POW camp), former Sen. Bob Kerrey (lost a leg) and former Sen. Max Cleland (lost both legs and an arm).

However, we veterans are most impressed by the sacrifices of Vietnam-era veteran George W. Bush, who lost his memory for nearly a whole year concerning where he was and what he was doing from mid-1972 to mid-1973 when he was supposed to be serving in the Texas Air National Guard.

Loss of limbs in combat and POW camps pale in comparison with our president's unique personal sacrifice. We are fortunate to have such a selfless and patriotic man leading us to war.

"Rumsfeld said troops from Vietnam War conscription added 'no value, no advantage, really, to the United States armed services...because the churning that took place, it took an enormous amount of effort in terms of training, and then they were gone.'

"I find these comments by the Secretary offensive and an affront to the thousands of soldiers who were drafted, served honorably in the Vietnam conflict, and to their families," Congressman Rangel said. "Thousands of these men died in Vietnam or returned home disabled. Between August 1964 and February 1973, over 1.8 million soldiers were drafted into military service. These draftees carried no distinction from their fellow soldiers on the field of battle, and have earned th honor and respect deserved of a veteran. It is a shame the Secretary of Defense recognizes their contributions to our democracy and freedom as of 'no value, no advantage.'" - Congressman Rangel http//www.house.gov/apps/list/press/ny15_rangel/CBRRumsfeldDraft.rename.html

"As an organization founded by Vietnam War veterans seeking justice and fairness for all -- whether military personnel or civilians -- we are outraged by Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld's comments made at a January 7th DOD press conference when asked about the possibility of resurrecting the draft. Secretary Rumsfeld said troops from Vietnam War conscription, "added 'no value, no advantage, really, to the United States armed services ..."

As Vietnam veterans who served with conscripted soldiers, we find Secretary Rumsfeld's egregious slur a grave insult to the memory, sacrifice and valor of those who lost their lives, and, further, dismissive of the hundreds and thousands of lives, both in the U.S. and in Vietnam, who were devastatingly shattered by the Vietnam War.

We suggest that the Secretary choose his words much more carefully in the future, and be sensitive as to how they affect those who put their lives on the line for this country, whether drafted or enlisted. This is all the more critical as our country is on the eve of war with Iraq, and thousands of U.S. troops are again mobilized to potentially engage in battle."

Vietnam Veterans of America Foundation is dedicated to achieving global security through programs that reduce the worldwide threat posed by war and conflict, and promote justice and freedom. As veterans who understand the causes, conduct and consequences of war, we are committed to leaving a legacy of fairness for future generations -- at home and abroad.

Established by a dedicated group of Vietnam veterans in 1980, VVAF has transformed the experience of war into a program of service to others. Our goal is simple -- to build and nurture a global spirit that is humanitarian and compassionate, just and dedicated to freedom.
